Does 1 cup of whole beans equal 1 cup of ground coffee?

balanceQuestion: "I just wanted a confirmation that:1 cup of whole beans equals 1 cup of ground coffee. It's a 1 to 1 ratio."- FrankAnswer: Great question, Frank. They are not the same.  A cup of whole beans has more "air" in-between them because of their larger shape than a cup of ground coffee.

When coffee is ground and because it's smaller, it fills in space between the coffee where ground coffee fits but a whole coffee bean wouldn't.  This is the reason you'll hear me suggest on the website to use a heaping tablespoon of whole bean coffee for each standard sized mug, or a level tablespoon of ground coffee per mug.  I hope that makes sense, and thank you for the question.
